Abstract (EN)
This research was conducted in a pre-test-post-test group, prospective, and experimental design to determine the anxiety levels of patients who underwent nonvascular interventional radiology treatment before and after the education provided to them. The sample of the study consisted of 144 patients who met the research criteria and agreed to participate in the study at a City Hospital's Interventional Radiology Clinic between October 2022 and March 2023, where nonvascular interventional radiology treatment was applied. The data of the study were obtained using a Personal Information Form, and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Patients, whose group was determined by the randomization method, were administered the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory before the procedure. After the procedure, verbal education was given to the control group patients by the nurse (researcher) in the clinic, while the experimental group patients were provided with structured written education (according to the booklet). The educational booklet was prepared with the guidance of information in the literature and evaluated using the DISCERN scale with opinions from 11 experts. Licensed SPSS 29.0 software was used for data analysis. The data in the study were analyzed with Independent Sample T-Test, One-Way ANOVA, Manova test, and Repeated Manova Test. The analysis of the data revealed that 58.3% of the patients were male, and their mean age was 58.35±14.72 years. When the distribution of gender, education level, occupation, marital status, smoking, and alcohol use of patients in the experimental and control groups were compared, it was found that the groups showed homogeneous distribution (p>0.05). The trait anxiety level pre-test score of the patients in the control group was determined as 43.90±8.35 (moderate), and the pre-test score of the patients in the experimental group was 42.24±9.15 (moderate). When trait anxiety levels of the experimental and control groups were compared, no significant difference was found (p>0.05).It was found that the situational anxiety level pre-test score of patients in the control group was 43.37±9.65 (moderate), and the post-test score was 40.73±10.58 (moderate). In the experimental group, the situational anxiety level pre-test score was 42.75±11.25 (high), and the post-test score was 33.32±9.95 (low). The decrease in the experimental group was found to be statistically significant (p<0.001). As a result, the hypothesis "The situational anxiety level of patients who received structured education in nonvascular interventional radiology is lower than the situational anxiety level of patients who received verbal education in the clinic" was accepted.
