Abstract (EN)

Obesity, which is defined as a disease characterized by endocrine and metabolic changes occurring in all age groups due to the increase in body fat ratio, is among the preventable health problems today and it is increasing in children and adolescents worldwide. Childhood obesity also affects later stages of life and brings with it many health problems such as prediabetes, Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM), metabolic syndrome, hypertension, dyslipidemia, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), cardiovascular diseases, coronary artery disease, and depression. 58 obese adolescent patients and 30 healthy adolescent control groups were included in the study. Neudesin levels were significantly lower in obese adolescents compared to the control group (p = 0,013). In obese adolescents, BW, BWz score, H.z score, BMI, BMIz score, waist/ hip ratio, glucose, ınsulin, total cholesterol, trigliserid (TG), HOMA-IR, systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP) were significantly higher than control group. (p=0,000, p=0,000, p=0,001, p=0,000, p=0,000, p=0,026, p=0,001, p=0,000, p=0,000, p=0,019, p=0,000, p=0,000, p=0,000, respectively). BWz score, BMI, BMIz score, insulin, HOMA-IR levels were significantly higher in morbidly obese patients than in obese patient (p=0,005, p=0,000, p=0,000, p=0,036, p=0,029, respectively). In the correlation analysis applied to the whole study group, a negative correlation was detected between serum neudesin levels and BMIz score (r= -0,40, p=0,000). In our study, in accordance with other studies in our country, according to IDF criteria the frequency of metabolic syndrome were 31% and serum neudesin levels tended to increase compared to adolescents with metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, hypertension compared to without, but no statistical difference was found (p = 0.259, p = 0.246, p = 0.259, p = 0.523 respectively). As a result, a significant correlation was found between serum neudesin levels and BMI z score in obese adolescents. It has been demonstrated that serum neudesin levels were low in obese and morbidly obese adolescents and tend to increase with metabolic disorders. We suggest that our results regarding the role of the neudesin molecule in the regulatory mechanisms of obesity and associated metabolic disorders, which have multifactorial causes, should be supported in larger groups and with detailed studies.
