Abstract (EN)

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and biochemical parameters, obesity, and iron deficiency anaemia. Method: This retrospective and descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 1072 patients admitted to Düzce University Family Medicine Department outpatient clinics between August 2016 and January 2019. Exclusion criteria in our study; pregnancy and lactation, being <18 years of age, taking iron replacement in the last 6 months and the presence of active infection on the day of blood sampling. Results: This work; 863 women and 209 men participated in the study. Vitamin D deficiency was observed in 55.7% of the patients. Female patients participating in the study had lower 25(OH)D levels, the incidence of vitamin D deficiency was higher than in male patients. The incidence of vitamin D deficiency was 61.4% in women and 32.1% in men. Hgb, iron and ferritin levels were higher in patients without vitamin D deficiency and there was a positive correlation found between hgb, iron and ferritin and 25(OH)D (hgb: p<0,001, iron: p<0,001, ferritin: p<0,001). There was no significant difference in preprandial blood glucose, insulin, TC, HDL and TG levels among vitamin D groups. The mean LDL was lower in patients with vitamin D deficiency (p=0,029) and a positive correlation was found between HDL and 25(OH)D (p=0,005). Vitamin D deficiency was seen at least in the pre-obese group and the most common stage 3 obese group. There was no significant difference in the 25(OH)D levels of bmi groups. BMI was found to be higher in patients with vitamin D deficiency and a negative correlation was found between BMI and 25(OH)D. In patients with vitamin D deficiency, %FM and FM were found to be high. There was a negative correlation between %FM and FM and 25(OH)D (%FM: p<0,001, FM: p<0,001). However, no significant relationship was found between %VF and vitamin D. Conclusion: Vitamin D deficiency is an important condition because it prepares many diseases and is easily preventable and treatable. For this reason, the discipline of Family Medicine is a subject that needs to be emphasized with regard to vitamin D iv deficiency. It is also thought that vitamin D deficiency risk factors should be well known and caution should be exercised in potentially related conditions such as obesity and iron deficiency. Keywords: Vitamin D, Obesity, Iron deficiency
