Data mining applications in education

Rapid progress of technology had expanded limits of magnetic storage devices and just as lowered their costs. This advancement had led mankinds every action and move to be recorded and turned into data mines which are had to be processed later. Data minings? ability to achieve golden data by utilizing the knowledge had become a major practice in the fields like banking and finance, retail industry, biomedical and health, and educational fields which is closely realted to our study. Students attitudes towards using of smart boards is the subject of this thesis. It is achieved by using association rules on the data collected with surveys from a project in the Fırat University in 2009-2010 academic year for the assesment of using of smart board, which is a swift and effective educational tool. Extracting meaningful data from data pools by utilizing association rules is the one of the most common algorithms in data mining. In this thesis study, factors affecting university students' attitudes towards smart board are uncovered with data mining methods by appliying association rules.
