Preservice teachers' percetions of their classroom management styles and their locus of control

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to study preservice teachers? classroom management beliefs and their locus of control; effects of their locus of control on their classroom management.The research was conducted 345 (126 male and 219 female) fourth year preservice student teachers from eight different teacher education programme department of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Faculty of Education at 2008-2009 academic year. Data of research was collected Turkish version of Attitudes and Beliefs on Classroom Control (ABCC) Inventory (Savran ve Çakıroğlu, 2004) and Turkish version of Rotter Locus of Control Scale (Dağ, 1991). Arithmetic mean, Standard Deviation Frequences, percentage, Analysis of Variance, t tests and LSD tests were used to analyze the data.The research has yielded that results. Preservice teachers had interventionist and interactionalists orientations on the Instructional Management dimension and non-interventionist and interactionalists orientations on characteristics. Preservice teacher?s perceptions of their classroom management beliefs don?t vary on the Instructional Management dimension and vary on the People management dimension in terms of depertment. Interactionalists orientations on the people management dimension. Preservice teacher?s perceptions of their classroom management beliefs don?t vary on the Instructional Management dimension in terms of gender but male were interventionist on the People Management dimension. The findings have discarned that preservice teachers? locus of control beliefs were vary on all continuum but most of them had both internal and external locus of control characteristics. And their locus of control beliefs vary on depertment and gender. Female preservice teachers? locus of conrol were external than male preservice teachers. Finally the findings have proved preservice teachers? classroom management beliefs effected by their locus of control characteristics on the People Management dimension. Preservice teachers who have external locus of control characteristics were more interventionist than others.Key Words: Classroom management, locus of control, teacher education.
