Examining the relationship between teachers' digital literacy levels and their personal cyber security behaviors

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between teachers' digital literacy levels and their personal cyber security behaviors and to evaluate them according to the independent variables including gender, age, teaching experience, major, education level, daily internet use, personal computer status, social media account use, internet connection environment, and internet access type. For this purpose, teachers' digital literacy levels and personal cyber security behaviors were analyzed through demographic characteristics. The sample of the study consisted of 472 teachers, 207 male and 265 female teachers, working in a town in the southeast of Turkey in the 2022-2023 academic year. According to the results, it was found that the digital literacy levels of the teachers were at moderate level. In the study, it was observed that the relationship between teachers' digital literacy levels and their personal cyber security behaviors was positive at moderate level. There was a significant difference in the digital literacy levels of the teachers and in all dimensions of the digital literacy scale, according to the variables of gender, age, teaching experience, major, education level, daily internet use, personal computer status, social media account use, internet connection environment, and type of sorce accessed to the internet. While there was a significant difference in the variables of the teachers' personal cyber security provisioning behaviors in terms of gender, teaching experience, education level, daily internet usage, personal computer status, social media account use, internet access environment, type of source accessed to the internet, no significant difference was found in the dimensions of protecting personal privacy, avoiding untrusted, taking precautions, protecting payment information and not leaving a trace in terms of the age and major variables.
