Teachers' opinions about the teacher career promotion system(case of Elaziğ)

Teacher quality constitutes one of the most important elements of the education system. Recently, it has been more important the teachers to update themselves and obtain necessary knowledge and equipment that the current era requires. In the information era we live in, teacher quality becomes a problem in Turkey as in the whole world. The purpose of this study is to identify the opinions of teachers and administrators working in elementary and secondary schools about the ?Career Promotion System?. For this purpose, a Likert type scale, consisting of 50 items with 13 items for teachers? reconstruction and improvement of themselves, and 37 items for their opinions about the career system, was developed. The scale administered to 447 teachers in different schools of 5 districts in central Elazig. For the analysis, descriptive statistics such as percentages, frequencies, and arithmetic means were calculated. For the difference test, ?t? test and analysis of variance ANOVA were used. Some of the findings are stated below: ? There was a significant difference between male and female teachers? reconstructing and improving their skills. Male teachers stated that they improved themselves more than female teachers along their career.
