Abstract (EN)

The aim from thıs study to determine the frequency, degree and repair capacity of oxidative damage to DNA in older adults with thyroid cancer. The study included (200) Iraqi persons divided into two groups, the control group consist of 108 healthy persons (62 males and 46 females) with age of 36 to 50 years and the patient group consist of 92 patients (44 males and 48 females) with age 38 to 57 years, samples were obtained from Diabetes and Endocrinology Center in Dhi Qar during the duration of February 2020 to January 2021. Regarding subjects with oxidative DNA damage by health status, 59% of Graves' disease and 53% of patients with Differential thyroid carcinoma had cells with oxidative DNA damage, in contrast to 31% of healthy elderly subjectsö and the differences were found to be statistically significant (p <0.01). On the other hand, mean migration values due to DNA damage in the comet test were significantly higher in the elderly group with arterial Differential thyroid carcinoma than in the healthy group (Differential thyroid carcinoma, 27.32 ± 8.00 vs. healthy 24.30 ± 5.07, p < 0. 05). In the analysis of health status as a risk factor for oxidative DNA damage, Graves' disease, DNA damage (OR = 3.2, 95% CI 1.6 to 6.7, p < 0.05), as well as Differential thyroid carcinoma (OR = 2.5, The 95% CI was 1.3 to 4.9, p < 0.05). Concluded in this study, oxidative DNA damage was increased in elderly patients with Graves' disease and Differential thyroid carcinoma than in healthy people, also levels of damage rais with progressive patient's age. 2022, 67 pages Keywords: Thyroid gland, Thyrotropin-releasing hormone, Differentiated thyroid carcinoma, MDA test, Graves' disease, TT3
