A research on the relationship between school climate and teachers' organizational citizenship behavior

The goal of this research is determining the perception levels of teachers concerning the variables of organizational citizenship behaviour and school climate perception and presenting the relationship between these variables. Besides, the other goal of this research is determining whether school climate perceptions and organizational citizenship behaviour levels of teachers with regard to their demographical features differ or not .In accordance with these goals, a questionnaire composed of personal information form, organizational climate scale and organizational citizenship behavior scale has been applied to the 350 teachers who work in high schools in Usküdar district of Istanbul province and accepted to fill in the form.The data obtained with the questionnaires have been analyzed in SPSS 17.0 statistical software package in computer environment. The statistical techniques used in the research are as follows: mean and standard deviation statistics in determining the school climate perception of teachers? and their organizational behaviour levels, correlation analysis in determining the relationship between teachers? school climate perception and organizational citizenship behaviour, regression analysis in determining the effect of school climate perception on the organizational citizenship behaviors. The differentiation of organizational behaviour levels and school climate according to the teachers? demographic features has been studied with t-test, one way Anova and Tukey tests.In the outcome of the research; it has been determined that teachers? perceptions of school climate are moderate level and teachers have high level of organizational citizenship behaviour. It has also been found out that there are meaningful correlations between teachers? school climate perceptions and their organizational citizenship behaviors. In addition, it has been seen that teachers? positive perceptions concerning the school climate increase their organizational citizenship behaviour levels but their negative perceptions decrease those levels. In the research, it has also been determined that there is a differentiation in teachers? school climate perceptions and their organizational citizenship behaviour levels according to their demographic features.Key Words: School Climate, Organizational Climate, Organizational Citizenship Behaviour
