Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the effect on the knowledge and behavior of students of the education given on accident-free days training program to prevent school accidents. Method: This is a semi-experimental study based on pre-test and post-test intervention-control groups. The study was completed with 414 fourth grade students in two schools in Antalya during 2015-2016 academic year. The data were collected with introductory question form and the Knowledge and Behavior Scale Of The Students On Safety Precautions for Preventing Accidents at School. At first, pre-test was applied to all students. Then, "Accident-Free Days Training Program" was given to the students at intervention group. The training lasted four weeks and each week a different method (seminer, Q&A, true-false game, word hunt, crossword puzzle and discussion) was applied. In order to promote learning, brochures were given out and certificate of achievement were given. Five weeks after the training, post test was applied to both intervention and control group. For data analysis we used mean, percentage, Fisher's Chi Square Test, Pearson Chi Square Test, Mann-Whitney U Test, Independent Samples T Test, Wilcoxon Peer Test and Difference Between Two Peers Test. Results: Post-training knowledge and behavioral point averages of the students in the intervention group were found to be higher than the control group and it was found to be statistically significant (p <0.001). Post-test knowledge and behavior results have increased in the both group (p<0.001). Both in intervention and control group, students were observed to have accidents at break (%85.5), at school yard (%78.2) and due to self and peer misbehavior (%56), but there was no statistically significant difference. Regarding the accident types, students in both groups have been observed to falls (%72.6) and collision with another peer (%61.2). Conclusion:It is important to be given education periodically on the prevention of accidents during the school period and to arrange the school and its surroundings and to make notifications to the relevant places by the school nurses. Key words: school accident, prevention, schoolchild, school nurse, education
