The relationship between teacher autonomy and ethical leadership characteristics of school principals

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between school principals ethical leadership characteristics and teacher autonomy according to the opinions of secondary school teachers. The population of the study is composed of teachers who work at offical secondary schools in three districts of Van (Edremit, Saray, Özalp) in 2018-2019 academic year. At the three districts of Van totally 795 teachers who work at offacial secondary schools constitutes the population of the study. At the study that is done according to the survey model random samples and 215 teachers are included in the study. The perception of ethical leadership of teachers of teachers who attended in the research were high. There was no statistically significant difference in the perception of ethical leadership of the teachers who attended in the research according to the variables of educational status working hours at school, branch, seniority and the status of working, district. While there was no significant difference in marital status varible in total scale score, there was a significant difference in dimatic ethics sub-dimansion. The perceptions of the teachers who attended in the research about total scale score of the teacher autonomy were high. There was a medium level positive and significant relationship between the teachers perceptions working in the three districts of Van regarding the total scale score of ethical leadership and teacher autonomy.. Accordingly the increase in ethical leadership can explan %12,9 of the increas in teacher autonomy. Keywords: ethic, ethic leadership, autonomy, teacher, teacher autonomy
