Study of the relati̇onshi̇p between preschool teachers' sci̇ence teachi̇ng and self-effi̇cacy levels (Ataşehir,district of İstanbul sample )

This research was carried out in order to evaluate the relationship between the attitudes of preschool teachers towards science teaching and self efficacy levels. Research was carried out in the town of Ataşehir Istanbul with 250 teachers from private and government preschools. Data was obtained in the first semester of education year 2013-2014. In this study, to obtain demographic information and determine self-efficacy beliefs in science teaching,developed by Riggs & Enochs(1990) adopted to Turkish by Özkan,Tekkaya & Çakioğlu(2002) 'Science Teaching Self Efficacy Beliefs Instrument'and first introduced in 1986 to determine the attitudes towards science teaching, Thomson & Shrigleys later developed for primary teachers Choi,Kim & Cho(2003) and adapted for preschool teachers Çakmak(2006) Turkish version "Fen Öğretimine Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği"(FÖYTÖ) and a questionnaire form developed by researchers was collected. The research results show that the level of self-efficacy in science teaching,personal self-efficacy levels and results against subscale belief expectations are of a good level. Analysis results also suggest that preschool teachers' science teaching attitudes and personal self-efficacy levels developed positively. In addition, preschool teachers' self-efficacy and attitudes towards science teaching measure positively against preschool teaching results expectations. A statistically significant positive correlation was found. Teachers who believe they can teach their science lesson effectively with high self-efficacy develop a more positive attitude toward steaching science.
