Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the usage and level of informal communication practices in secondary schools according to the views of administrators and teachers. The research was conducted on a survey model. The "Informal Communication in Schools" scale developed by the researcher was used as a measurement tool in this research. The target population of the first study application forms 2258 administrators and teachers working in the primary and secondary schools located in the districts of Onikişubat and Dulkadiroğlu which are the central districts of Kahramanmaras in 2016-2017 academic year. In the first application 970 people were included in the research group. The target population of the second application of the study is composed of 1629 administrators and teachers working in the high schools located in Kahramanmaraş Onikişubat district. The research group of the second application consists of 298 individuals. Data obtained as a result of the study R 3.3.1. and MPlus 7 programs and tabulated and interpreted by making frequency tables, compliance statistics, explanatory factor analysis, validity and reliability analyzes, confirmatory factor analysis, T-test and ANOVA analyzes. Research findings indicate that informal communication is intensely used within the school, but it becomes a more distant relationship outside the school. Informal communication at school is mostly used for periods of increasing managerial problems and for relief. Gossip and rumor-like informal communication are rarely experienced, and teachers are disturbed by such communication. Teachers express that informal communication can sometimes be caused by groupings that damage the functioning of the institution, besides, they also think that informal communication is a positive aspect of creating more understanding relationships within the school. While the teachers' communication perceptions did not show any meaningful difference according to gender variable, there were significant differences in reasons of using informal communication according to high school type and seniority variable. Key Words: Communication, Organizational Communication, Formal communication, İnformal Communication.
