Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of ESWT applied on the trigger point on pain, function and effusion in individuals diagnosed with shoulder impingement syndrome. Thirty-two patients with a diagnosis of shoulder impingement syndrome admitted to Private Olympos Hospital were included in the study. The patients were randomly divided into two groups as the study group (n=16) and the control group (n=16). A conventional physiotherapy program was applied to both groups 5 days a week for 3 weeks. Conventional physiotherapy program consisted of Hot pack, Ultrasound (1 mHz. 1.5 w/cm², pulsed 5 min.), TENS (conventional 20 min.), manual therapy applications, posterior capsule stretching, ROM exercises, isometric strengthening exercises for shoulder muscles. In addition to the study group, 5 sessions of ESWT (500 pulses around 1000 to the trigger point, 2 bar 10 Hz.) were applied to the trigger point in the shoulder region. Pain, Corbin posture index, supraspinatus tendon thickness, effusion, normal joint range of motion, muscle strength, Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH), Constant Murley Score, and Fatigue Severity Scale were evaluated in all patients before and after treatment. Pain, Corbin posture index, supraspinatus tendon thickness, effusion, normal range of motion, muscle strength, Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH), Constant Murley Score, and Fatigue Severity Scale were statistically significant improvements in both groups. The study group was superior to the control group in terms of pain, effusion, fatigue severity, and external rotator muscle strength parameters. As a result, ESWT applied in addition to conventional physiotherapy in patients with shoulder impingement syndrome was found to be superior to conventional physiotherapy in terms of pain, effusion, fatigue severity and aktive shoulder extension parameters. Key Words: Shoulder impingement syndrome, trigger point, ESWT, pain, function, effusion.
