Abstract (EN)

Art has carried the traces of the period in which it was formed throughout history and continued its development in this context. Like every work of art, every artistic sense carries the quality of a new entity within it. This situation strengthened the relationship between art and ontology, thus allow treating art as an ontological problem. The turbulent process of the nineteenth century created the contradictory character of modern art and allowed the formation of abstract art, the most extreme movement of modern art. Abstract Art's radical change in the understanding of painting by going beyond traditional forms has caused this movement to be seen as elusive and meaningless. But this change brought about by abstract art, enriched its ontologically and with the philosophical support behind it , made it find meaning in appearance. The ontological investigation of abstract art has brought a new perspective to works of art. In this study, the historical process of abstract art was examined, the relationship between art and the existential philosophy has been examined and the dynamics of the modern period are emphasized. A phenomenological examination has been made on the change of perception of aesthetics over time and on the truth of the timeless work of art. Understanding the journey of abstract art in the light of philosophical ideas with the changing dynamics of the modern period is important in terms of paving the way for understanding the ideas of contemporary art.
