Abstract (EN)

Imagination is one of the most important elements thanks to which a work of art or literature come into existence. The things beyond the imagination are dreams. Dreams, still mysterious and unknowable, are extremely important in the production of art and literature but it is a fact that although we have made some significant progress in the interpretation of the dreams with the rise and development of modern psychology, they could not be explained totally. When the fictional nature of written text taken into consideration, we must call the dreams within a written text deliberative imagination. There are lots of authors in Turkish literature who focus on dreams and they frequently use them in their own novels. Orhan Pamuk, our Nobel prize-winner author, uses dreams nearly in all of his literary works and the dreams turn into characters in his novels. Each one of these dreams tends to become symbols rather than mere images. While literature and novel are symbolic means of expression, Orhan Pamuk adds the world of images to the world of symbols really successfully. In this study, the dreams in the literary works by Orhan Pamuk are closely observed and studied in light of modern psychology and Islamic mysticism
