Abstract (EN)

General policies on climate change and global warming; mitigation and increasing carbon sequestration capacities and adaptation processes. Within terrestrial ecosystems, forests play a key role in tackling climate change with their mitigation and carbon sequestration capacities. In the fight against global warming, it is important to measure the knowledge level and perceptions of Forest Engineers, who are involved in forest management and planning, and to prioritize their perspectives on forest planning strategies. 241 Forest Engineers participated in the study. According to the results of the study, forest engineers state that their knowledge level about climate change is sufficient. Possible changes in the impact of climate change on forest resources; biotic and abiotic damages will increase and changes in species composition will occur over time. Existing national forestry policies were found to be insufficient to prevent the negative effects of climate change, at the same time, it was stated that the transfer of some existing policies to forestry practices was not sufficient, and that forest resources management should be changed in order to adapt to climate change. Encouraging the establishment of mixed stands, including species that can better adapt to the future climate in afforestation and monitoring forest health have come to the fore as the most important measures. Among the strategies to reduce the effects of climate change, the only strategy that forest engineers who participated in the survey objected to is increasing the harvest. In addition, reducing the harvest and extending the rotation ages are also receiving low support. The findings show that forest management strategies, which find more support, are compatible with the objectives of preserving/maintaining the existence.
