The relationship between foreign language lerarning strategies and lerarning styles of high school students

The aim of the research is to analyse the relationship between foreign language learning strategies and learning styles of high school students. At the beginning of the research, is primarly focused on "The Relationship between Education and Learning" and then analysed learning approaches. It is focused on the concept of learning styles and also located in various classifications. It is also mentioned the benefits of proper regulation of teaching and learning environments within the scope of learning styles. The meaning of "strategy" and "learning strategies" are defined before the explanation of the sub-headings of other main topic "language learning strategies". After giving the features of learning strategies, it is stated on these strategies' classifications that are widely mentioned and used in the related literature.The dependent variables of this research are learning styles and learning strategies. The independent variables are gender, age, the type of school, grade of class, educational level of mother, educational level of father, income level of family, the purpose of learning foreign language, the amount of time in the day to learn a foreign language. The research was carried out in 2012-2013 academic year on 303 students studying in different high schools affiliated to İstanbul Kadıköy District Education Directorate. 171 female and 132 male students got involved in this research. In order; to measure foreign language learning strategies of the students, "Oxford's Strategy Inventory of Language Learning" that is developed by Oxford (1990) and adapted into Turkish by Cesur (2008); to determine the learning styles of students "The Inventory of Marmara Learning Styles" that is developed by Otrar (2006), also for demographic characteristics, Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher were used in this research. The questions in these inventories were all answered by the high school students. The data obtained by the researcher were analyzed with SPSS 12 software package programme.
