Abstract (EN)
In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the new learning needs that emerge as a result of role loss in middle age and old age in the context of lifelong learning. In line with the determined purpose, it was decided to conduct a qualitative research. While studying this issue and evaluating the results, a case study was selected as the most appropriate method. In this study, which was prepared without the concern of generalization, 16 people with different socio-economic status, age and life stories, who were selected from middle age and old age using the purposive sampling technique, were included in the study. Participants were selected among middle-aged (45-64) and elderly (65+) individuals living in Çukurova and Yüreğir, the central districts of Adana province. These two districts were selected because they have the highest population among the metropolitan central district municipalities and represent different geographical and socio-spatial characteristics. Within the scope of the research, in-depth interviews were conducted with individuals in middle age (45-64) and old age (65+). After the interviews with both groups were completed, the data obtained were interpreted using descriptive analysis methods. The findings suggest that individuals from both groups try to create a new pattern in their lives in adaptation to the changes after the role losses they have experienced. They meet new emerging learning needs through a variety of activities and adult education programs. As a result of the research, a difference was observed in Çukurova and Yüreğir districts due to differences in socio-economic status and inadequate facilities. At the end of the study, recommendations were made to increase the number of adult education opportunities, social activities and platforms where people can receive social and psychological support and to make them more accessible. Key Words: Middle age, elderly, aging, role loss, lifelong learning
