The effects of computer assisted instruction method on secondary school student success in learning of verb and verbals

The aim of this study is to identify the effects of computer assisted teachning method on student's achievement and persistency in learning of verbs and gerunds. In this study pretest-posttest control group design that is one of the quantitative research methods is used. The research group consist of 66 students studying at 14 Eylül Anatolian High School in Siirt Province in the academic year 2014-2015. The students were oppanted to experiment and control groups randomly. Verbs and gerunds topic is handled with computer-assisted teaching method in experiment group, but with the lecture method in control group. Verb and Gerunds Achievement Test was applied to both experiment group and to control group as pretest, posttest and retention test. SPSS 22.0 statistic program was used while analizing the data obtained from the tests. According to the pretest, it is determined that both groups are equal to one another. As the postest data, it is found that there is more increase in the experiment group's success rate, but no meaningful differentiation was found between success rates. Meanwhile, it is visible that there is meaningful differentiation between the success rates of retention test. According to these results, the knowledge processed with computer-assisted teaching method is learned more effectively and permanently.
