Alienation perceptions of secondary education teachers

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to determine the alienation levels of secondary education teachers, to define whether they experience alienation in terms of weakness, meaninglessness, normlessness, depersonalization, alienation to school and isolation dimensions or not and to present whether there is a meaningful difference between the alienation levels of teachers and the variables of gender, marital status, number of children, branch, age, seniority, last graduated school and the type of the school to be worked in or not.The population of the research consists 968 teachers working at official secondary schools in Aydın central district in 2010-2011 education term. The sampling of the research consists of 484 teachers. Scale developed by Elma (2003) is practised to the teachers constituting the sampling by defining its dimensions again. The data obtained from ?Teachers? Alienation Scale? are analyzed by using statistical programme SPSS 16 package. In the analysis of the data, .05 meaningfullness level is based and t-Test, Mann Whitney-U Test, Kruskal Wallis-H Test, Anova, LSD Test and Games Howel Test are practised.In the consequence of the research, general alienation levels of the teachers is found as ?seldom? level. In the analysis made according to the dimensions, it is seen that ?normlessness? dimension is experienced maximum level, after that ?weakness? dimension is experienced seldom level and ?alienation to school? dimension is experienced never level.A meaninfgul difference in subdimensions of alienation according to the variables of marital status, last greduated school, age and seniority is not encountered. According to the gender it is seen that women experience weakness dimension less that men, teachers not having children experience powerlessness more than the teachers having two or more children. Teachers in ?Vocational Lessons and Counseling Branches? experience alienation in lower level than the Foreign Language branch teachers and Mathematics teachers and Anatolian High School teachers experience alienation in the lower level than Vocational High School and General High School teachers.
