The views of the administrators working in secondary schools towards in-service training (The case of Ankara)

In this study, the views of the administrators, working in public secondary schools in central districts of Ankara, towards institutional and individual dimensions of the in-service training are examined.The sample included 161 schools administrators working in secondary schools in central districts of Ankara in 2008-2009 academic term. In this research, the survey method is used and frequency, mean, standard deviation, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, one-way ANOVA and independent sample t-test were conducted to analyze data gathered through SPSS 15 program.Results of the study revealed that; administrators think in-service training as an important activity that contributes both their institutional and individual aspects. There was a significant relation between administrators? views of the individual and institutional dimensions of in-service training. Moreover, it was seen that administrators? views for institutional and individual dimensions of in-service training are directly related which means that administrators use institutional and individual dimensions of in-service training at the same time.The views of administrators about in-service training did not change according to their genders, years of experience, years of experience as an administrator, administrative positions, attendance to in-service training, and the number of in-service trainings they attended.On the other side, there was a weak indirect relationship between administrators? views about institutional dimension of in-service training and their job experience andthe number of the in-service trainings, lectures, and seminars they attended.
