Determining the relationship between digital game addiction, peer bullying and sportsmanship behaviors in secondary school students (Ağri province example)

Abstract (EN)
The aim of the study is to examine the relationships between digital game addiction, peer bullying and sportsmanship behaviors of secondary school students studying in state schools and private schools in the central district of Ağrı province in terms of some variables. The Relational Screening Design method was used in the study, in which the quantiative research model was adopted. In addition, Stratified and Maximum Diversity Sampling method was used. The population of the reasearch is the students studying in public and private schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the central district of Ağrı province in the 2021-2022 academic year which consists of 559 female and 493 male students studying in the total 1052 students at 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades. A questionaire consisting of four parts was used as a data collection tool in reasearch. Personal Information Form in the first part, Digital Game Addiction Scale for Children developed by Hazar and Hazar (2017) in the second part, Peer Bullying Scale developed by Kutlu and Aydın (2010) in the third part, Physical Education Class Sportsmanship Behavior Scale developed by Koç (2013) in the fourth part included. Obtained data were analysis through statistical packkage program. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean), T-Test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) tests were used. In addition, the Pearson Correlation test was used in the correlation analysis for the Hyothesis tests. Results p<.05 evaluated according to the significance level. According to the research findings; there is a significant difference between students' digital game addiction, peer bullying and sportsmanship behaviors and gender, class, age and game type variables; there is a significant difference between digital game addiction and sportmanship behaviors and internet connection, school type and digital game tool variables; it has been determined that there is a significant difference between peer bullying and sportmanship behaviors and the variable of being a lisenced athlete. It was determined that there was no significant difference between the mother's education status and father's education level variables in terms of digital game addiction, peer bullying and sportsmanship behavior. According to the Pearson Correlation test analysis results, it was found that there was a statistically significant negative correlation between digital game addiction and sportsman behavior. In addition, it is seen that there is a statistically significant positive relationship between digital game addiction and peer bullying. And also, it has been determined that there is a statistically significant negative correlation between sportsmanship behavior and peer bullying.
