Examining the relationships between secondary school students' parental attitudes, academic achievement and ostracism at school

The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between secondary school students' parental attitudes, academic achievement and ostracism at school. In the research model developed in this context, the effect of parental attitudes on academic achievement was examined, as well as the effects of academic achievement and parental attitudes on ostracism. The sample of the study consists of 226 students studying at secondary schools in Harran district of Şanlıurfa province and participating in the study voluntarily. In this context, a five-point Likert-type questionnaire consisting of three parts was used. In the first part, there are questions about the demographic characteristics and academic achievements of the participants. In the second part, the Parental Attitudes Scale was applied to determine parental attitudes, and in the third part, the Social Ostracism Scale for Adolescents was applied and the collected data were analyzed with the SPSS program. Within the scope of the study, validity analysis, reliability analysis, normality analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis, t-tеѕtі and ANOVA analysis were performed. It was found that democratic attitude differs according to gender, mother and father education level and income status; protective/demanding attitude differs according to gender and mother education level; ostracism differs according to mother's education level and income level; academic achievement differs according to gender, mother and father education level and income level.
