Leadership and role conflicts of secondary school teachers

AN INVESTIGATION ON LEADERSHIP AND ROLE CONFLICTS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS The aim of the study is to investigate whether there is a statistically significant difference in the level of leadership behaviors and role conflicts between the sexes, age, educational status, marital status, graduated faculty type, income level, teachers' branches and type of schools where teachers work; and also in the level of teachers' leadership behaviors and level of living role conflict. The sample group of this study consists of teachers who work at all the secondary schools in İstanbul Province Ataşehir District. The questionnaire was applied to 293 teachers. The leadership scale developed by Avolio and Bass in 1990 was used to measure leadership level and the scale developed by House, Rizzo and Lirtzman in 1970 was used to measure role ambiguity and role conflict. As a result of research, marital status, gender and faculties teachers graduated from are not effective variables in the level of experience on leadership and role conflict. Teachers' leadership is changing. The role conflicts of the teachers vary according to the type of school, level of education and income. As teachers' leadership qualities rise, the level of role conflict also rises.
