Income-expenditure books of the Enderûn Treasury of the Sultan III. Ahmet period in the Ottoman State (1703-1730)

The Enderûn Treasury, which was the internal treasury of the Ottoman Empire, functioned as a warehouse or chest where precious money, jewelry and goods were kept. The surplus assets of the external treasury were kept in the Enderûn Treasury. In addition to gold and silver cash, the Enderûn Treasury contains precious jewelry, fabrics, clothing, weapons, household items, books and fragrances. On the other hand, it is the recycling box of the Ottoman palace with its unique production and transformation mechanism. Thanks to this self-sufficiency, it became one of the sole institutions of the Ottoman Empire. Therefore, the Enderûn Treasury is much more than a treasury. The reign of Sultan Ahmet III has been one of the periods that has attracted the most attention of Ottoman history researchers in terms of political, economic and socio-cultural aspects. The Enderûn Treasury provides important clues about the financial income and expenses of the palace in such a period, which has caused many debates among researchers. In addition, it contains many cultural elements in terms of period evaluation. In this study, the income and expenditure books of the Enderûn Treasury, which were recorded during the 27-year reign of Sultan Ahmet III, are analyzed. Thus, while trying to reveal the importance of the Enderûn Treasury, the period of Sultan Ahmet III is evaluated through the eyes of the Enderûn Treasury ledgers.
