Abstract (EN)
This thesis titled "Orientalist Effects in Anatolian Architecture in Ottoman Age" aims to examine the state ideology of the capital authority reflected in Ottoman provinces, through architecture. The Orientalism movement, which the Ottoman Empire imported from Europe with Westernization, includes art, aesthetics, and style; as well as East-West relations, religion, politics and ideology unlike other movements. In this context, it has been tried to reach an idea about which cultural formation the Ottoman Empire felt it belonged to in the last period. In this study, a total of fifty orientalist-influential structures built in Anatolia between 1874-1923, thirty of which have survived to the present day, and twenty of which have not survived, excluding the capital Istanbul, were examined. These structures are, according to their function; six clock towers, fifteen police stations and gendarmerie buildings, five mosques, six government offices-municipal buildings-other public buildings, four schools, six houses, two fountains, a tomb, a library, and a station building. The Orientalist elements of the buildings were determined, their typology was formed and they were classified according to their styles. These elements, which are generally found in public buildings, have been compared with the examples in the capital city and imperial lands. In the light of all data, an evaluation has been made on the image of the state authority against Europe and the provinces in this period. Keywords: Ottoman, Architecture, Anatolia, Orientalism.
