Evaluating the patient safety culture perception of health professionals working in A private hospital

Abstract (EN)

This is a descriptive study that evaluates the detection level of patient safety culture of health professionals working in a private hospital. Study was conducted with 103 health care workers working in a private hospital. Research data was collected with, "Data Sheet" that comprise the demographic and occupational characteristics of health workers and The Hospital Survey on Patient Safety which was developed by AHRQ (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality) in 2004 and validated to Turkish in 2009 by Emel Filiz. Evaluation of the data for statistical analysis, SPSS (Statistical package for social sciences) 21.0 program was used. Distribution of variables was checked with Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. In the analysis of quantitative data ANOVI, Kruskal-Vallis, independent samples t test and mann whitney U test was used. 32% of participants were male, 68% were female. Professions groups was, 28.2% doctors, 35.9% nurses and 35.9% other health care workers. When compared in female participants, factors of, comprehensive safety perception in the sub-area patient safety culture survey (63.9%) and, teamwork within units (76.1%), the positive response rate is higher than male workers. Among the nurses; factors of "Comprehensive safety perception" (70.9%) and "keeping communication open" (57.7%) the positive response rate were found significantly higher than doctors and other professional groups. In sub-area patient safety culture survey "hospital interventions and changing" sub-area mean scores was found 50.2% and it was higher than benchmark scores.. Other 11 sub-area positive response rates were found lower from benchmark scores were lower. 76.9% of participants did not report any event.Health care workers who participated in the study showed, patient safety degree of institute (46.6%) was acceptable believe that it is level. Determining the level of patient safety culture must become permanent and turn to a corporate culture.
