The comparison in terms of somatosensory amplification levels and empathic tendency levels of parents with children who need special education and parents with children who do not need special education

The aim of this study is to reveal whether there is a difference or not, between somatosensory amplifıcation levels and empathic tendency levels of parents with children who need specıal educatıon and parents with children who do not need special educatıon. In this study, Empathic Tendency Scale and Somatosensory Amplification Scale were used. Variables evaluated in the study were; age, gender, education level, occupation, having a child in special education or not. It was investigated whether there was a significant difference in empathic tendency levels and somatosensory amplification levels or not. 100 parents residing in Istanbul Provincial were taken into the survey. At the same time, Personal Information Form has been created by the researcher with the aim to identify socio-demographic characteristics of individuals. In terms of age and gender, a significant difference could not be found between somatosensory amplification levels and empathic tendency levels of parents of children who did not need special education. It was observed that parents who graduated from middle school and had lower education levels than middle school had higher somatosensory amplification levels compared to parents who graduated from high school and housewife parents had higher empathetic tendency levels than working parents. Also, it was observed that parents with children who needed special education had higher somatosensory amplifıcation levels than parents with children who did not need special education and decreased empathic tendency levels of parents with children who needed special education with the increment in the duration of special education of their children.The discussion section at the end of the study includes some suggestions based on the findings for researchers, experts who work in this field and parents.
