The place of instructional design in internal training programs designed for private sector employees

Instructional design is not only used in K-12 education or at the academic level; it is also frequently used in preparing corporate training. This research aimed to determine to what extent instructional design models are used in corporate training programs implemented in Turkey. To determine how much knowledge employees in the field of corporate education have about instructional design and technologies if there are employees who have received training in the field of computer and instructional technologies in these institutions, their roles and examine what their duties are. In the first stage of the research, a questionnaire was applied to 46 employees working in corporate training units in our country, and the results were analyzed with quantitative methods. In the second stage of the research, semi-structured interviews were conducted by selecting four people from among the participants in the first stage. It was determined that 72% of the participants knew the concept of instructional design, and 54% used instructional design models in the educational design and development stages. On the other hand, it was found that 58% of the participants in the research did not use a standard model in their institutions, and they benefited from a model specific to their institutions. In addition, it has been concluded that instructional design and technologies provide benefits such as enabling institutions to carry out training independent of time and place, facilitating measurement and evaluation processes, and bringing standardization to training.
