Abstract (EN)

This study covers the evolutionary process which the portrait art has gone through and discusses portrait-painting under deformation heading.Portrait painting has taken its roots from a humanbeing requirement to position himself or herself. Portrait painting positioned at all ages of the arts are frequently encountered both for religious manifestations and as sign of nobility as well as a component of desire for immortality. In this study, we reviewed the painters who have engraved their faces on this earth with their portraits, emphasizing the phenomenon of face and meaning in portrait. Portrait as a form of art has, historically, put on various dresses in various artistic fields and in artists? perceptions and constructions of meanings, thereby gaining new appearances as time went by.There are artists who have created new moves vis-a-vis their own periods, with a push to change `what is here?. This efforts have been discussed on the score of deformation in the context of art movements. In this context, the concept of ?deformation? came to the fore with Picasso and Bacon who had welcomed deformations. The first impact of technology on paintings came with the invention of photography. Painters who once had to work hard for a long time to get their paintings welcomed the invention called Daugerrotype which enabled them to get a perfect result so easily. Now, painters have started to create photography-based artworks. Fast technological developments going on in the 20th century have provided artists with new means of creativity. Final section discusses the impact of technological developments on portrait paintings. This study aims to discuss the portrait with its various aspects articulated in details on the score of ?Deformation? on a common point. All data are addressed in an integrity and in a certain scheme thanks to clear-cut identification of the subject-matter as well as of the method adopted. In conclusion, these data are the source of my understanding of arts as well as of my interest in deformation. Keywords: Portrait, Face, Painting, Deformation, Photograph, Technology
