Abstract (EN)

Schools prioritize students based on several criteria (priority classes). This implies some way of random tie-breaking among students. We consider a school choice problem with affirmative action when there are priority classes and two kinds of students, minority and regular students. First, we argue that breaking all the ties in favor of minorities could harm the minorities. Second, we modify the constrained efficiency definition for minorities: a stable matching μ is minority efficient if there does not exist another stable matching at which each minority student is weakly better off than at μ and some minority students are strictly better off. Third, we propose mechanisms which are both constrained efficient and minority efficient.
