Abstract (EN)
Purpose: This study has been carried out to review care-oriented nurse-patient interaction level of nurses giving care for psychiatry patients. Method: The study is a cross-sectional and complementary research. The research environment consists of nurses giving care for psychiatry patients in all the public hospitals with psychiatry wards in İzmir and Manisa (N=291). No sample selection was applied as nurses themselves taking part in the research constitute sampling (n=112). Required data were collected through the Nurse Introductory Information Form, Caring Nurse-Patient Interaction Scale, Spiritual Perception of Support Scale. Defining statistics (average number and percentage distribution), and the Kruskall Wallis test, Mann-Whitney-U test and Pearson Correlation analysis were used in evaluation of the collected data. Findings: As for the average points nurses giving care for psychiatry patients gained from care-oriented nurse-patient interaction scale, they received 313.08±30.45 for importance aspect, 283.79±37.43 for adequacy aspect and 268.01±47.65 for feasibility aspect. While nurses achieved the highest points from the sub-aspect of requirements, and aspects of importance, adequacy, feasibility, they were determined to have the lowest points from the sub-aspect of spirituality. It was also identified that significant differences stood out between their distinctive features, such as level of education, hiring institution, awareness of the definition of integrated care, and importance- adequacy-feasibility aspects of care-oriented nurse-patient interaction. Depending on nurses' level of spiritual perception of support, there is a positive correlation between importance-adequacy-feasibility aspects of care-oriented nurse-patient interaction. Result: Nurses giving care for the psychiatry patients were observed to recognize the importance of care-oriented nurse-patient interaction; however, their self-perception was that they were inadequately applying the necessary importance on this interaction. Nurses' motivation may be improved by providing relevant trainings on the subject so that they enhance the required skills to apply them in practice. Key Words: Psychiatry Nursing, Nursing Care, Nurse-Patient Interaction
