ÖZDERE B. Preventative Effects of Meyan Kökü (Glycrrhiza glabra) Extract on Formation Obesity by Feeding with High Fat Diet in Rats: An Investigationby Histopathological and Biochemical. Yüzüncü Yıl. University, Institute of Health Science, Department of Pathology MSc Thesis,Van, 2019. The aim of this study is to investigate by histopathological and biochemical effects of preventative effects (Glycrrhiza glabra) tea on obesity development by feeding with high fat diet in rats. In this study, 32 Wistar albino rats were divided to four groups as Group Control (C) (n:8), Group High Fat Diet (YYD) (n:8), Group High Fat Diet+Glycrrhiza glabra (YYD+M) (n:8) and Group Glycrrhiza glabra (M) (n:8). YYD and YYD+M group rats received YYD (4000kcal/kg) containing fat (300g/kg) for 8 weeks. Thedaily preparation of Glycrrhiza glabra tea at the dose of 1g/kg body weight in rats of group YYD+M and M group were given by orogastric catheter. During the study, weight gain of the rats was monitored. Hepatoprotective effect by Glycrrhiza glabra tea was further supported by the almost normal histology in YYD+M tea-induced group as compared to the degenerative changes such as macrovesicular and microvesicular fattenings, hydropic degeneration, dilatation of sinusoid and coagulation necrosis of some hepatocyte in the YYD treated rats. Decreased levels of blood glucose AST, ALT, ALP, LDH, cholesterol, triglycerides and HDL cholesterol were detected in Glycrrhiza glabratea supplemented YYD. In conclusion, these findings suggested that simultaneous treatment of Glycrrhiza glabra attenuated hepatic fat accumulationin YYD fedrats.
