Abstract (EN)

Chronic renal failure (CRF), is a progressive loss in renal functions (fluid and electrolyte balance, metabolic-endocrine) that glomerular filtration rate is below 60 ml/m at least for three months which is caused by loss in renal mass and permenant decrease of glomerular filtration rate. End-stage renal disease is defined irreversible loss of renal functions and GFR's fall below 15 ml/m. Patients with End-stage renal disease survive with renal replacement alternatives as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and renal transplantation. If we compare treatment alternatives of End-stage renal disease, renal transplantation is the best and the most successfull alternative because it eliminate dialysis's physical and psychological difficulties and replace renal function completely. In progress of CRF patients, as all other systems, muscle skeletal system and metabolic-endocrine systems can have problems. Uremic bone disease, hyperparathyroidism, metabolic disorders of vitamin D, hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia and myopathy are some of this problems. To minimize pre-transplant and post-transplant metabolic complications, it is important to follow vitamin D levels and replace them as needed. In this study, we investigated vitamin D levels' relation with renal functions in renal transplantation patients at Gaziantep Univercity - Department of General Surgery between 2010-2014 years. In End-stage renal disease patients, before and after renal transplantation vitamin D deficiency is a common situation. This study showed that there is a correlation between vitamin D levels of the first year after transplantation and latter years but there is no correlation between vitamin D levels and GFRs of patients. Vitamin D replacement can reduce complications after and before transplantation but in this study there was no significant effect on graft functions. Key Words: Renal transplatation, vitamin D,allograft, rejection
