Examining the effect of basic psychological needs satisfaction and sexual satisfaction on relationship satisfaction in young adult individuals in romantic relationship

The present study set out with the objective of examining the effect of satisfaction with sexual life and satisfaction with basic psychological needs on young adults' satisfaction in romantic relationships. The research employed a methodological approach, using the relational screening model to examine relationships between variables. The variables of the study were examined using single linear regression and correlation analysis. Sampling was reached between July 2024 and December 2024. The study utilised several instruments for data collection, namely the Personal Information Form, Relationship Satisfaction Scale, Golombok Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale and Satisfaction of Basic Psychological Needs in Romantic Relationships Scale. A total of 406 participants were included in the study on a voluntary basis and written informed consent forms were obtained from all of them. As a result of the research, it is seen that sexual satisfaction and satisfaction in meeting basic psychological needs in romantic relationships of young adult individuals in romantic relationships have a significant effect on relationship satisfaction. The relationship between the variables was found to be both negative and positive. The results obtained are largely consistent with previous findings in the literature. However,the lack of support for the hypotheses analysed in the relational dimension can be explained by social acceptance failure, stress, Turkish culture, lack of sexual communication, lack of sexual knowledge, monotonous sexual life, and differences in the age groups of the individuals. The findings were discussed within the context of relevant literature and theoretical frameworks.
