An examination the relationship between parental attachments and sexual satisfaction of adults with romantic relations

In the study, a restrospective assessment of early parent-child relationships of adults with romantic relationships and their sexual satisfaction was examined. It is hypothesized that individuals' positive attachment in their early parent-child relationship may positively be associated with their sexual satisfaction during their adulthood romantic relations. In this study, the Sociodemographic Information Form prepared by the researcher, the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale and the Parental Bonding Instrument (for fathers and mothers) were used as data collection tools. The research sample consists of adult individuals who identified themselves to be in a romantic relationship. 282 individuals, 212 (75.1%) women and 70 (24.8%) men, answered the survey questions. The majority (66.3%) of the individuals participating in the study aged between 18 and 24. Data obtained via the measurement tools were analyzed using the SPSS program. According to the findings of the study, Individuals in a committed relationship of boyfriend - girlfriend type were more sexually satisfied as compared to individuals identifing themselves as being in a casual relationship. Participants who reported to have over three years of romantic relationship were more sexually satisfied compared to individuals having less than three months of romantic relationships. Fathers control or overprotection in the early parent-child relationship is a positive predictive factor for increased sexual satisfaction compared to other early parent-child bonding dimensions. Moreover, fathers control or overprotection in the early parent-child relationship is a positive and significant pedictor of sexual satisfaction derived from the Partner/sexual activity centered diemsion (partner's sexual behavior/reactions and the diversity and/or frequency of sexual activities) of sexual satisfaction.
