In the international system there are many factors affect in the foreign policies of countries. With the end of the Cold War, the identity of the countries began to take part among the factors that affect foreign policy within international theories. The definition of identity, which has got changes and transformations in the historical process, has the feature of changing and transforming the interests of countries and hence their foreign policies. The concept of identity, which is among the normative values starting to stand out in the international system towards the end of 20th century, has been the main subject of social constructivist approach. Taking into account the Russian identity in the historical process, different foreign policy processes in different periods draw the attention. Concepts defining identity such as Slavic, Ortodox, imperial, communist-marxist or superpower are factors that create and transform Russian foreign policy. With the dispersion of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) and the end of the Cold War, double pole structure of international system had come to an end. The Russian Federation, which emerged after the USSR, redefined its identity and shaped its foreign policy around it. In this study, Russia's creation of a new identity and how its foreign policy is shaped around it will be examined.
