The place of the health news at the formation of the health culture: The research that is studied with the health correspondents and the residents of two different socio-economic structure district in İstanbul

This study is conducted to assess the impact of the health news published and/or transmitted in the media on the health culture. For this purpose in-depth interviews were conducted with the journalists working in the local and national media and content analyses of the media were made in two separate periods, namely spring and fall. On the other hand, with regard to the public receiving the media news, in-depth and focus group interviews were realized with the residents of two quarters, namely Ataşehir and Başıbüyük, of Istanbul that have different socio-economic characteristics. The data gathered in 2010-11 years.At the end of the study, it is determined that the health news of the media has impacted creating changes and transformation on the health culture. Media creates mental processes that lay the foundation of raising the impacts that create change and transformation. Publications and transmissions are made with the extensive science concept for medicalization of life and comprehension of health at the individual level. For purposes of health various standards are imposed on fields of life and human body and people are assigned duties to fulfill. The number of clients in the health industry nurtured by the modern medical applications is increased rapidly. Health industry conducts ?covered advertising? for marketing products and services via media, with the reliable personality image of the health professionals, respectability of the academic titles and the positivist science understanding of the capitalistic system in the society. In this case, the journalism that is said to be conducted in the name of individual and public health turn to be commercial activities of the capitalistic system carried out for profit. Thus the people directed by the media are prevented to take the decisions and make the preferences by their own free will.In order to make the health environment better for both the receivers and providers of health care and services in Turkey, responsible and more qualified social science studies should be increased further in the field of health. Besides this, scientific concept of the modern medical applications should also be discussed from the point of view of philosophy of science and a new approach should be developed. Ethical studies should be encouraged both for the fields of media and health and these studies should be made functional. When considering the vital significance of health for mankind, it is obvious that such an issue should not be left to the health professionals who are just the practitioners in the field.
