Abstract (EN)

Fake news is not a new phenomenon. However, it has become a serious problem as a result of the widespread use of the internet due to rapidly advancing technology today. To combat the issue of fake news, people need to develop awareness of fake news. For this awareness to develop, it is necessary, first, to distinguish between fake news and real news. Therefore, knowing to what extent people can distinguish between fake and real news will enable this distinction level to be compared with different variables and help make more accurate decisions regarding measures to be taken against fake news and personal awareness-raising efforts. However, when the relevant literature in Turkey is examined, a valid and reliable scale measuring the extent to which people distinguish between fake and real news cannot be found. For this reason, this thesis aims to develop a valid and reliable scale to measure the extent to which people can distinguish between fake and real news in their daily practices. As a result of the research conducted, the "Scale for the Ability to Distinguish Fake-Real News" (SADFRN), consisting of two subscales (information acquisition skills; news analysis skills), measures the extent to which people can distinguish between fake and real news in their daily practices, has been developed.
