ABSTRACT M.Sc. Thesis A COMPARISON OF BIOMASS EQUATIONS FOR Quercus infectoria Oliver PLANTATIONS WITHIN THE SANDIKLI REGION Seviye Firdevs ZEYBEK Isparta University of Applied Sciences The Institute of Graduate Education Department of Forest Engineering Supervisor: Prof.Dr. Yılmaz ÇATAL There are eighteen species of oak trees native to Turkey. These tres can adapt and survive in different regions and environments. There fore each species growth characteristics should be analysed in their local environment. This analysis is made for Quercus infectoria Oliver native to Sandıklı forest area. This study aimed to build equations to estimate the amount of biomass of a single tree using one or two parameters measured from the chosen tree. Twenty different areas around Sandıklı forest area has been chosen as the growth environments for the oak trees. One average size sample tree is chosen from each area for analysis. Each sample tree was cut into 2 meters and 3 cm of sections starting from the middle of each section. Anotheset of samples including leafs, bark and branches. These samples are packed into polyethylene bags and taken to the laboratory. These samples are weighed using precision scales. They have been put into drying oven at +105oC for 24 hours. They have been weighed in precision scales to determine the dry weight. These weight measurements then converted to the full tree scale for each tree. These values are put into the equations using the variables "tree diameter" and "Trees Height". These equations are compared with the other results. Each selected area's sample tree results are found significantly different from other. Based on this analysis it has been decided that the equations are stable within selected area They produce better results with less deviation within slecetd area and with sample thet constructed for.
