Abstract (EN)
Handicrafts comprise an indispensable part of Anatolian traditional culture. As a branch of handicrafts, jewelry has been used since the early ages. The use of jewelry, which initially emphasized functional features such as religious symbols, magic, and status, has settled on a ground where aesthetic concerns come to the fore over time. The city of Şanlıurfa, which is also known as the city of the prophets and estimated to have been dating back to 11,000 BC, especially after the discovery of Göbeklitepe Temple by the latest archaeological researches, is an area inhabited by many civilizations. The archaeological excavations and architectural works that still exist here appear as the documents of the past. The craftsmen who lived in Anatolia produced beautiful works with various production and decoration techniques. These works are windows that open from the past to the present day and help us to define the history, culture and life of a community. In this study which we carried out on a group of ethnographic jewelry in Şanlıurfa Museum, the properties of the works such as materials, construction techniques, ornamentation methods were examined. The definition, history, jewelry making and ornament techniques of the jewelry were evaluated, and Şanlıurfa Province and Museum were introduced. The study included 29 ethnographic metal works in the museum. The features of these works were explained with the help of the information forms created. The jewels that were included in the study belong to the Ottoman Period and the Early Republican Period. The jewels discussed in the evaluation section were explained in comparison with each other. The data obtained were presented briefly in the conclusion section.
