The tradition of ijaze in the eastern madrasahs (example of Suffa madrasahs)

The ijazet; is the sign that a teacher has perfected his knowledge and the permission to pass on this knowledge to others. At the same time it is an indication that he received this knowledge from a competent teacher that he was trained by this teacher. The knowledge, education and training of a teacher who does not have an ijâzet cannot be trusted. This teacher cannot give ijâzet to anyone else, too. In this sense, the ijazet line is the guarantee that the knowledge and upbringing from the Prophet Mohammed (P.B.U.H) has continued to up to present day without any interruption. In our study, we have discussed this tradition of ijâzet and the text of ijazetname which still continues in eastern madrassas today. This study consists of an introduction and two parts. The introduction is about the history of madrassas. In the first part, the term ijazet, its content and importance are explained. In adition, it informs about the lectures and books taught in Eastern madrassas. The second part focuses on the line of ijazet and its text. After the Arabic and Turkish translation of the ijazet, the bioagraphies of the teachers in the ijazet line are mentioned.
