Determination of ontogenetic variability in terms of agriculturalcharacters, essential oil content and components in summer savory Satureja hortensis L.

This research was carried out to determine the changes in the agricultural characteristics, essential oil ratio and components of the summer savory (Satureja hortensis L.) plant at different growth periods in 2018. The research was established in the experimental areas of Yalova Atatürk Horticultural Central Research Institute according to the randomized complete block design with 3 replications. In the experiment, 10 different growth periods, starting from the vegetative period, including the long flowering period and the post-flowering stages, were considered. For this purpose, a single harvest was done at 10-day intervals by starting from the vegetative period, As a result of this research, plant height, plant diameter, number of branches, green herb yield, dry herb yield, dry leaf yield, dry stem yield, essential oil ratio in leaf and stem, essential oil yield in leaf, stem and total values were determined between 32,0-44,70 cm, 29,80-35,23 cm, 16,20-22,73 unit/plant, 1045,55-2035,83 kg/da, 232,25-677,05 kg/da, 126,06-424,20 kg/da, 106,20-252,85 kg/da, 2,816-3,983 %, 0,037-0,053 %, 4,07-14,48 kg/da, 0,04-0,10 kg/da and 4,11-14,69 kg/da respectively according to the growth periods examined. Carvacrol (55,94-65,24 %), γ-terpinene (21,67-27,00 %) and p-cymene 7 (9,47-16,21 %) were prominent as the main components of leaf essential oil. As a result of this research, it was determined that the 6th period harvest came to the fore in terms of yield values and the 9th and 10th harvests in terms of essential oil and carvacrol content.
