Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of Curcumin (CUR) and Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) against ultraviolet A and B (UVAB) damage created by experimentally in rat dorsal skin by immunohistochemical (TUNEL), biochemical and stereological methods. 42 female rats with adult Albino Wistar weight of 200-300 grams were used. Rats were randomly selected to form six groups and each groups has seven rats. Respectively; Control, UVAB, CUR, ALA, UVAB + CUR, UVAB + ALA groups were formed. The rats in the UVAB, UVAB + ALA and UVAB + CUR groups were exposed to UVAB irradiation for two hours per day for one month. UVAB + ALA and UVAB + CUR groups were given respectively 100 mg / kg / day ALA and 100 mg / kg / day CUR by gavage 30 minutes before exposure to UVAB. ALA group was given 100 mg / kg / day ALA and CUR group 100 mg / kg / day CUR by gavage for day. At the end of the 30th day, the rats were perfused and the skin dorsal tissues were removed and then stereology, TAS, TOS, OSI and TUNEL were studied. UVAB group compared with control, it was observed that dorsal skin epidermis thickness and epidermis volume ratio of rats significantly increased in stereological findings (p<0,05). UVAB + ALA and UVAB + CUR groups compared with UVAB group, it was observed that UVAB + ALA and UVAB + CUR groups were significantly decreased (p<0,05). UVAB group compared with Control, it was observed that Total Oksidan Seviyeleri (TOS) and Oksidatif Stres İndeksi (OSİ) significantly increased in UVAB group (p<0,05). However, TOS and OSI levels decreased significantly in treatment groups (p<0,05). In the study, the number of apoptotic cells significantly increased in the UVAB group (p<0,05). Treatment groups showed a significant decrease in the number of apoptotic cells (p<0,05). In conclusion, ALA and CUR were found to have protective effects on skin damage induced UVAB
