Abstract (EN)
The city of Sebaste, whose name began to be mentioned in the Romanization process of Western Anatolia but which we have seen material cultural elements since the Late Neolithic Periods, has managed to survive for thousands of years with its location and fertile territory. The localization of the city was carried out for the first time by European travellers who came to Anatolia in the 19th century by reading the inscriptions found in the vicinity. Between 1966 and 1978, excavations were carried out by Dr. Fıratlı on behalf of the Istanbul Archaeological Museums for 13 seasons in Mounds, Churches, and Tumulus. As a result of these excavations, it was understood that the architectural foundations of the Roman Bath were under the churches and that the center of the city was the site where the churches were located. Selçikler, which is the center of Sebaste, and all surrounding areas have been scanned with intensive surface researches since 2016. In this respect, in the areas where the architectural fragments and small finds were recovered, chronological classifications were made and efforts were made to shed light on the historical processes of the settlement. The Roman ceramics, which are among the small finds and form the basis of this study, are important in the surface survey in terms of the parallelism of the settlement and the findings, as well as showing clues about the structures under the soil. Being the first to evaluate the red-slip wares found in the surveys works, our study is important as it shows the commercial and market dominance of the city.
