Urbanization process and focus cities : Lüleburgaz example

When we look at the process from the emergence of cities to modern-day it seems that every period has its own unique structure. However, we have not witnessed the replica of the city which circulates in the cycle of similar values as in recent years. Hence, the fate of cities is getting closer day by day and becoming uniform. In such a world scene, urban policies that differentiate, attract qualified human power, capital and technology to the city, enhance the quality of urban life by making sustainable planning are gaining importance. Anymore, the competition among cities that Donald Haider calls "place wars" has come to an end and the period of cities that created areas where competition can not be done, has started. Today, the global economy rewards cities with the ability to express themselves and bridge local values and universal trends. For this reason, cities need to identify all kinds of values, especially cultural riches, and present and integrate them into the modern world. Besides that becoming a center of attraction for investments is one of the main goals of local economic development. Today, cities and countries, depending on the reasons listed, are in an effort to meet the expectations of different types of users (city-dwellers, investors and visitors) through physical, economic, social and cultural plans. In this study, firstly the concepts from the emergence of cities to the role in the present world were analyzed and new urban policies and urban models emerging from global developments were examined. In this direction, a new understanding "Focus City" model was examined, Lüleburgaz was considered as a model in the perspective of the theoretical bases of study, in the face of this rapid change and transformation on the global scale, the situation of the city, the outlook of the future and the urban politics have been examined.
