The Free Republican Party organization of İstanbul and minorities

The study examines the establishment of the Free Republican Party (SCF), which is an important milestone in Turkish politics, the elections, the Istanbul organization and its relation to minorities. In addition, the importance of the role of the organization of the SCF in Istanbul and minorities in Istanbul's politics have been mentioned. The SCF is the second opposition party established in a single party period. Was established by Fethi (Okyar) with the encouragement and support of Gazi Mustafa Kemal providing Istanbul to be center. Was met with great interest, among social-economic difficulties, especially in the coastal city of Turkey in 1930s. Fethi Bey's Aegean Tour has brought this interest to the highest point. Fethi Bey and Süreyya Pasha have played an active role in the Istanbul organization of the SCF. They established organizations in almost every province of Istanbul. Received great interest, people from every proffesion seem to be members to SFC's Istanbul organization. Having once participated in the municipal elections in a short period of activity, the has achieved success beyond expectation. Istanbul is one of the cities of its success. Another innovation the SFC brought to the Turkish political life is that it elects some of the candidates from Greek, Armenian, Jewish minorities by giving them the right to be elected. SCF has nominated 13 candidates from minorities in Istanbul. There were 6 Greeks, 4 Armenians and 3 Jews on the Istanbul candidate list of 117 people. Although minorities' participation as a candidate for election led to many problems in the next period, it was a positive step for Turkish political life.
