Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a high-velocity low-amplitude (HVLA) manipulation and the application of breathing exercises together with HVLA manipulation on respiratory function parameters, blood pressure, oxygen saturation (SaO2), and heart rate (HR) in individuals who smoke for a long time and have an inactive level of activity. 60 volunteers who had at least 10 pack/year of smoking consumption and scored inactive or minimally active from the International Physical Activity Scale (IPAQ) questionnaire were randomized into the Control Group (CG) and the Experimental Group (EG) (n=1:1). Participants' FEV1 (Volume of air exhaled in the 1st second of the forced expiration), FVC (Forced Vital Capacity), FEV1/FVC, PEF (Peak Values of Expiratory Flow Rate), HR, Systolic and Diastolic Pressure and SaO2 values taken before (BI) and after (AI) the intervention, and 6 weeks after the intervention (AI-6w). HVLA manipulation was applied to both groups once a weekX6 weeks. In the EG, breathing exercises were given with HVLA manuplation and with chiropractic first week and other weeks the frequency and number of exercise were increased. The exercises were monitored during 1 session of manipulation each week, the remaining 2 days the participants vii completed the exercises on their own without any supervision. Comparing the difference between AI, AI-6 and BI, in EG there was statistically significant difference in all parameters, in CG also in all parameters except HR, Systolic and Diastolic Pressure. When comparing the groups in accordance to change between AI, AI-6 and BI there was no difference in any parameters.
