Abstract (EN)
The press has been one of the most influential factors among the mass media with its features such as directing the societies, consolidating certain groups by influencing them, shaping the fields of perception. The press, whose origins date back to the 17th century, has been named as the fourth power of democracies in the development process of democracy and in line with the right of individuals within democratic/contemporary systems to receive information. The development of the press in Turkish political life; While it was manifested by state control in the Tanzimat period, it continued its course as the main dynamic in the adoption of the new regime on the one hand and one of the most important actors in the democratization process on the other hand. One of the most important actors of the press, which has aggravated its mass in Turkish politics with the multi-party political life, in the new era that started with the DP government; Akis magazine, which started its publication life in this period and became the first political news magazine of the Turkish press. Akis magazine, created by Metin Toker based on world renowned news magazines such as Time and Newsweek, presented political and socio-cultural developments to its readers in a unique and fluent language as a weekly news item. Akis magazine, which started its broadcasting life with the principle of "impartial reporting", has witnessed the most difficult days of Turkish political life within the framework of democracy, while becoming one of the strongest opposition organs against the DP government over time. In fact, it not only witnessed those days, but also had an impact on difficult days such as the 1960 Revolution, which closed the DP period. After the Toker period (1954-1967), Akis magazine started its publication life again in 1987, this time with the privilege of Kurtul Altug and in order to continue Toker's school. Akis magazine developed a publishing policy opposed to the Turkish-Islamic synthesis and the political representative of this synthesis, ANAP, which it saw as the official state regime after September 12. After this short-term trial in 1987, Akis magazine, which was re-released between 1993-1994, this time under the leadership of Mehmet Ali Yula, witnessed the coalition days of Turkish political life, especially the DYP-SHP government. Having witnessed three different periods of Turkish political life from three different perspectives, Akis magazine has also pioneered the magazines that followed, becoming one of the cornerstones of Turkish press history in political news journalism.
